HPPC: Lease signed for the historic “Xenia Ouranoupolis” with Domes Resorts

A new perspective for an iconic property of the Xenia network through an investment that enhances quality tourism and the development potential of Halkidiki

The Public Properties Company (HPPC), a subsidiary of the Growthfund, continues the implementation of its plan to revive the historic Xenia hotels, following the signing of a long-term lease agreement for “Xenia Ouranoupolis” with Domes Resorts. This follows the completion of the open electronic tender process conducted for the development of the property.

The property’s lease contract for a period of thirty (30) years which was signed by the Chief Executive Officer of HPPC, Ms. Iro Hadjigeorgiou, and the CEO of Domes Resorts, Dr. Georgios P. Spanos, marks the launch of a major investment that will lead to the full upgrade and reopening of the hotel complex, highlighting once again one of the most iconic landmarks in the history of Greek tourism.

“Xenia Ouranoupolis” was built in 1959 based on the designs of the distinguished architect Periklis Sakellarios. It stands as a characteristic example of the historic Xenia program by the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO), which played a decisive role in shaping the modern Greek tourism product.

The property occupies a privileged location at the gateway to Mount Athos, features an extensive beachfront and is one of the most significant tourism assets in HPPC’s portfolio. This specific investment is expected to contribute substantially to the further development of the Ouranoupolis area and the wider Halkidiki region, boosting employment, local entrepreneurship and the destination’s international appeal.

HPPC’s CEO, Iro Hadjigeorgiou, stated: “The long-term lease of Xenia Ouranoupolis is another major step in HPPC’s effort to bring new life into iconic properties within its portfolio. The Xenia hotels are an integral part of the country’s modern tourism and architectural history and their development is directly linked to creating new growth opportunities for local communities. Our goal is to transform properties of high symbolic value and unique characteristics into modern hubs for growth, investment and high-quality hospitality, while fully preserving their historic and cultural identity.”

The highlighting and redevelopment of the historic Xenia hotels included in HPPC’s portfolio form a core pillar of the company’s strategy to activate properties with unique architectural and developmental value. Through targeted investments and partnerships with credible investors and market leaders, HPPC aims to return iconic assets back to productive operation, generating added value for the economy, local communities and Greek tourism.
