HPPC: Tender launched for the restoration and enhancement of the Achilleion in Corfu

A €11.5 million project for the restoration of the Palace and the modern museum operation of the complex

The Public Properties Company (HPPC), a subsidiary of the Growth Fund, in cooperation with the Project Preparation Facility (PPF), is launching an open electronic tender for the restoration and enhancement of the Palace building and the redevelopment of the courtyard of the Achilleion in Corfu. This marks the beginning of the next crucial phase for the comprehensive upgrade of one of the country’s most recognizable cultural landmarks.

The project, which has been classified as an Operation of Strategic Importance, has an estimated value of €11.52 million (excluding VAT) and is funded by HPPC’s own resources. The total execution deadline is set at 28 months from the signing of the contract.

The tender process is being conducted by the Project Preparation Facility (PPF) of the Growth Fund, acting by order, on behalf of, and in the name of HPPC, which is the Beneficiary of the project. The contribution of the Growth Fund is decisive for the promotion and implementation of a complex project of exceptional cultural and developmental significance.

Restoration and modern museum operation

The project concerns the restoration and transition of the Achilleion complex into a modern museum operation. It includes the completion of the restoration of the Palace and the Gatehouse, as well as the upgrade of the complex’s surrounding area.

Specifically, the project provides for the completion of architectural, structural, and electromechanical works at the Palace, interventions for the restoration of its structural adequacy in accordance with modern specifications, the completion of works at the Gatehouse and the complex’s infrastructure and networks, as well as the redevelopment of the courtyard. The project also includes the installation of the necessary lighting, the procurement and installation of museum structures and specialized conservation works.

Achilleion in the new era

The tender is a pivotal step in HPPC’s overall planning for the restoration, promotion and reactivation of the Achilleion. The objective is to highlight once again its historical and architectural significance and to create a modern museum and visitor experience, while respecting the unique identity of the monument.

The investment is part of HPPC’s broader strategy for the protection, promotion and sustainable utilization of the cultural properties under its management. In the case of the Achilleion, the plan combines the protection and restoration of the monument, the modernization of infrastructure and museum operations and the enhancement of the visitor experience, so that the Achilleion can strengthen its role as a major cultural destination for Corfu and the entire country.

With the launch of this tender, HPPC moves from the preparation phase to the implementation of the project’s next phase, investing its own resources to safeguard and promote an emblematic public property asset, creating the conditions for its modern and sustainable operation over time.

Interested economic operators can submit their bids electronically through the Hellenic Republic Single Public Procurement Authority ‘H.S.P.P.A’ Operating System (H.S.P.P.A) until Monday, September 21, 2026.
