The objective is to develop a comprehensive proposal for the utilization of the Government House as a venue for culture, conferences, and events
The Hellenic Public Properties Company (HPPC), a subsidiary of the Growthfund, proceeds to the next significant step in the revival of the former Thessaloniki Government House (“Palataki”) with the launch of an international open tender for the preparation of a restoration and operations study for the emblematic property.
The tender process titled “Restoration and Operation of the (former) Thessaloniki Government House” concerns the next and final stage of the studies, specifically the completion of all required technical studies and administrative approvals that will enable the full maturity and tendering of the construction project.
At this stage, in collaboration with consultants selected through the tender process, the reuse strategy for the listed building will be fully defined, and the final uses for each space will be determined. The objective is to deliver an integrated development proposal for the Government House as a venue for cultural activities, conferences, and events, with accessible functions for all.
The tender concerns the selection of a consortium of consultants to complete all required studies, including architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering studies, environmental studies, and traffic and transport studies, among others. It also includes securing all necessary approvals and permits, such as environmental approvals, approvals from the Architectural Council, relevant authorities of the Ministry of Macedonia–Thrace, and the Ministry of Culture, traffic connection approvals, fire protection approvals, as well as pre-approvals and building permits.
The estimated contract value amounts to €1,209,852.67 (excluding VAT), while the deadline for submission of applications is set for 30 September 2025. For further information, interested parties may visit HPPC’s website, where the tender has been published.
It is noted that in June 2024, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Hellenic Parliament, the Growthfund and HPPC, providing for the restoration and development of the Government House. The Memorandum, valid until the end of 2026, with the possibility of extension, initially considers that the Growthfund and HPPC will assess the cost of the required studies to determine the total restoration cost of the property and its surrounding area.
Based on the estimated restoration cost, the Hellenic Parliament will examine and decide whether to cover the relevant expenditure, in full or in part, with additional funding if deemed necessary.
The ultimate objective is to establish a permanent presence of the Hellenic Parliament in Thessaloniki, while ensuring the dynamic utilization of the Government House through extroverted activities and close cooperation with the local community.
